Our Pain Management Process

If you have been referred to, or have decided to contact Dr Desai, you are probably suffering from chronic pain. You have probably already undergone a considerable healthcare journey.

Your first step will be to contact our Secretary Jean who will book an appointment, the earliest available, at your convenience. They will take all your details.

At the first consultation, Dr Desai will assess your condition, the cause of the pain, and explore the possibility of treatment. If the pain is intractable and cannot be resolved, you may be discharged with advice on management of the pain.

If he feels it is amenable to treatment, the process will go further. Depending on the nature of the pain, you may go through:

Investigations: You may be required to first undergo investigations like blood tests or imaging
(for example MRI Scan, CT Scan, Ultrasound Scan or SPECT CT)
Referral: You may be referred to:

  • Physiotherapist for rehabilitation
  • Psychotherapist
  • Other consultants
Treatments: You may be offered treatments:

In most cases, you will be booked for a follow up consultation to review progress within 2 to 4 weeks.  Depending on how well the pain is controlled, you may be discharged. After consultation, if necessary, you may wish to try one of the other options of treatments.

Chronic pain can be difficult to treat and usually it is not possible to get rid of the pain completely.

Dr Desai will work with you to systematically identify the cause of your pain and find the most suitable treatment so that you can manage your pain better, and improve your quality of life.

What they wrote about us

I had been paralysed in my right arm and in such chronic nerve pain, I had not turned my head right for a very long time. You performed Pulse radiofrequency and steroid injection into my neck. I am now able to live a normal, relatively pain free life and for the first time in 22 months I am looking forward to re-joining the work force. The procedure has changed my life and the life of my family.

I thank you for helping me to have pain free days for the first time since last year. The injection has made a huge difference.
